What Does Treatment for Anxiety Look Like?

Counseling for anxiety involves working with your therapist to learn strategies for managing anxiety and stress. These could be breathing techniques, practicing self-compassion, and challenging & reframing anxious thoughts (what we call cognitive behavioral therapy or CBT in the therapy industry). Lifestyle changes that reduce stress are very helpful too.

The goal of counseling isn’t to get rid of anxiety entirely, it’s something that is a part of all of us and it does serve a purpose. It warns us when something isn’t right, and it also pushes us to grow, achieve new things, and move out of our comfort zones. 

Instead, we aim to help our clients develop a set of tools that they can use to make sure that anxiety doesn’t spiral out of control and start to spill over into other areas of their lives.

 Different tools work for different people, so there is a bit of trial and error involved. Your therapist will help you to determine which strategies will be the most effective for you as well as helping you to identify the root cause of your anxiety.
