Mental Health for Men

Men need mental health support too

So many men suffer with mental illness on their own with no resources because they think it’s a sign of weakness or taboo to need support, but you deserve to take care of yourself. You don’t have to suffer in silence.

Depression in men

Millions of men suffer from depression-but you don’t have to do it all on your own. First let’s talk about some signs you may be depressed. Here are typical symptoms of depression:

  • Decreased interests in hobbies or things that normally bring you joy

  • Significant changes in weight and/or appetite

  • Changes in sleep habits—sleeping too much or too little

  • Struggles with concentration, paying attention, or staying on task

  • Low energy that can’t be relieved with rest

  • Suicidal thoughts or feelings

There are additional symptoms that are commonly found in men experiencing depression:

  • Feeling irritable or aggressive

  • Physical pain

  • Engaging in reckless or impulsive behaviors

  • Misusing substances

How can therapy help?

Therapy is a great tool to help you process the things you are going through, especially for men. Men often don’t have relationships in their lives where they can feel fully open and vulnerable. Therapy is a place you can be honest about your thoughts and the stressors in your life. Your therapist is there to help you navigate whatever problems you are having without judgment. It may feel foreign to talk about these things with another person, but don’t worry, we can help you along the way and make sure you are comfortable every step.
