PART 2: Don't Worry Momma, You’ve Got This: Our Top Postpartum Hacks

Are you getting ready for your baby to get here, and feeling lost and helpless about how to make your postpartum journey easier and more comfortable? And how to make sure you remember this experience forever?

If you missed last week’s post, make sure you go back and check out part one of our postpartum hacks! We talked all about your support system, who you want on your care team postpartum, and ways to make your postpartum transition smoother by asking for help and delegating tasks.

Must-Have Postpartum Supplies:

Efficiency, comfort, and convenience is key to having a positive postpartum experience. Something as simple as comfy sheets and pjs (hello Target, here we come!) can make a world of difference when you are tired and need a 30 minute nap. Here are some of the best items to put on your wishlist:

Silverettes: These nipple shields are a LIFESAVER! If you plan to breastfeed, they are a must have! These will help protect your nipples from cuts, cracks, sores and infections. They are made with silver which is a natural antibacterial, anti-fungal, and antimicrobial metal. They are naturally soothing and provide space for your nipples to get airflow while also keeping them enclosed and safe from infection.

Baby Wrap: A baby carrier will be your best friend on days when your baby is fussy and wants to be held all day, but you have things you need to get done. The wrap-style carriers are my favorite because they are adjustable and customizable to your needs.
Your nightstand necessities: Make sure you have extra hair ties, easy to grab snacks, your favorite water bottle and some chapstick for a little postpartum bedside kit. Put some entertainment in there for nights that the baby can’t sleep and you need to keep yourself awake.

Adult Diapers: I know this may sound like a lot, but trust me when I say this is a must. Using diapers is so much easier and more comfortable than using pads. There are discreet ones that don’t feel as big and bulky, but still provide great support and coverage for you.

Prepare for Processing Your Birth

Your birth is going to be a transformational experience that you’ll want to be able to remember forever. I recommend documenting your experience as quickly as possible so you don’t forget anything. You can record yourself talking about it or write it down, but you’ll want to be able to look back on it. It also will be helpful to document early in case there’s anything you want to be able to process later that you won’t remember as time passes.

It’s also important to have someone on your support team that can help you process all of the beautiful, messy, and emotional things you went through during your baby’s delivery. A mental health counselor, doula, or homebirth midwife is trained to be able to help you process your labor and delivery in a way that is healthy and beneficial.
